My church is getting people in the congregation to write their favorite holiday traditions/ memories to include in a special memory book for our Christmas Eve services.  Of course, I'm thinking of writing mine but thought it would be interesting to hear other Moms' favorite memories.

As a kid, Christmas was all about the presents for me.  I can still see the pink fluorescent numbers on my childhood alarm clock gleaming at me through the darkness telling me - it's too early to wake up your parents.  I could never sleep on Christmas Eve as the surprises I was sure to find under the tree always drove me to distraction.  I think I mostly loved the anticipation of Christmas Day more than the actual day itself.  In my younger days Christmas was all about secrets, surprises and Santa.  All of which I wanted to discover as soon as possible!

The best Christmas was when my younger brother and I got a Super Nintendo Entertainment System.  I know, I am dating myself now, but we had the best time playing Super Mario Brothers together that whole day!  Just the other day I found out I could do Yoga with the new game systems available.  Things sure have changed.

Another one of my favorite childhood holiday memories is that my mom would always read the story of the first Christmas to us on Christmas Eve.  And, as I got older I would play a part in reading the story to the rest of the family.  I hope to keep that tradition alive with my own family as I teach my daughter about the true meaning of this glorious season.

Now that I am (sort of) an adult, Christmas has certainly taken on a new meaning.  I am the new keeper of the secrets and surprises as well as the main orchestrator for all things holiday.  These days I'm less concerned about Christmas getting here in a hurry and more concerned with enjoying every moment that we get together as a family on this special day.

Though I've only enjoyed 2 Christmas' so far as a Mom, my favorite part of the season is putting on Christmas music and decorating the tree.   I don't mind if my neighbors see my silly little Jingle Bell Rock dance through the window, either.  And, I grin and bear it (or maybe that's just my teeth gritting) when my two little dogs treat the Christmas tree like their own giant chew toy.  It's totally worth it when I see my daughter's smile in the glow of the twinkling lights on Christmas morning.

We're sure to make more memories together as a family, but that's all I've got so far.  Now it's your turn...what are some of your favorite holiday memories?
