Giving Thanks....

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away?  As this wonderful holiday approaches, I was reminded the other day while listening to a radio program of the history behind Thanksgiving and the importance of giving thanks to God for all he has done in our lives.

Many times we get in a rush to buy the turkey and all the fixings only to  simultaneously get the decorations for Christmas out and ready to set up that weekend, while at the same time making our lists and checking them twice to hit the Malls and stores for the day after Thanksgiving!

But to celebrate Thanksgiving?  Why that could include giving thanks by.... recounting to the children in your family what the first Thankgiving was all about.....savoring the flavor of family recipes passed down through the years or being introduced new ones....a day to look around for someone who has no family and invite them to celebrate with yours....a day to take turns sharing what you are most thankful this past year for before digging in to a sumptous feast...a day to step outdoors and walk off that big meal you just ate while being in the company of the people you love.

This year, in my family, we're thankful for great doctors and surgeons as my dad battles cancer and for the strength God gives us each new day.  For the prayers of friends and family as they come alongside and join us for the journey.  Thankful that we as a family have another Thanksgiving together...no matter where we spend it.

What are you thankful for this season?
