Q: Any tips on visiting the parks on busy days?
Posted by Mom411 in Questions
Any hints to how to make the most out of the parks at such a busy time of year. We are staying at the Marriott Horizon. How early should we leave to get into the parks (I think we will get our tickets to the park at the Hotel instead of waiting until we get to the park."
A: I think you are off to a good start, first by anticipating crowds and second by planning ahead. Having realistic expectations and a good game plan are probably the best ways to ensure a fun visit to the park on busy days.
It's a great idea to pick up your tickets at the hotel. Try to do anything ahead of time that you can in order to avoid waiting in line with your kids once you arrive at the park.
Second, I would try to have an idea of what you and your family would most like to do once you arrive at Silver Dollar City. Simply go to the Schedules and Brochures section of SDC's website and download a map and show schedule the week of your visit to help get some ideas. And remember...the lines will be long, especially for the water rides (if it's hot) and the high thrill rides.
Now some insider tips...if you head over to SDC at 9am on a Saturday you are almost sure to get caught in traffic heading to the park. You might consider arriving early and having breakfast at Molly's Mill Restaurant, which opens at 8am. You'll beat the opening traffic and get a tasty start to your day!
Also, since you indicated you will be getting the 2-Park CityHopper Pass you might consider visiting Celebration City on Saturday and then visiting Silver Dollar City on Sunday when the crowds will be a little smaller.
And, as you probably already know from traveling with your kids be flexible and have fun!
