Q: Is 6-months too young to visit?

Q: Sue asks, "We are planning a trip to the Branson area with our family, would a 6 month old be too young- any thing for that age group?"

A: I think at your child's age it is interesting for him or her just to experience the new sights and sounds at Silver Dollar City.  I took my daughter at 6 months and she really enjoyed just walking around the park and seeing the shows.  And, I have found the more action-packed the show is the more enjoyable it is for her.  I would recommend the Saloon Show, and if you visit during Kids' Fest the new VeggieTales show.  You can even meet Bob & Larry afterwards!

At 6 months there aren't a ton of age appropriate rides, but there are some things I think your child might enjoy.  I would start with the Train Ride, a trip through Grandfather's Mansion and the Homestead Barnyard.  Plus, there are some really neat activities set up especially for Kids' Fest that your child may enjoy as well.  Check out this blog post for more details.

I definitely think there will be things your child will enjoy, but as you know, you have to be flexible when traveling with a little one.  We have season passes, so if my daughter gets tired after a couple of hours it's not a big deal if we have to leave.  Silver Dollar City does not charge admission for children under 3 years old, so your 6 month-old would get into the park for free.  But, you might consider if you think the cost of admission for the rest of your family will be a good value depending on how long you think your child would be able to stay at the park and the activities you could participate in.  I hope this information is helpful!

We were just at Silver Dollar City last week with a 5 month old. He did great. The only attractions we were able to do with him were the Flooded Mine, Grandpa's Mansion and the Train ride. He did great with the first two but was scared of the Train whistle......and they use it alot!

The folks in ALL of the restaurants were great with filling our bottles with warm water. We would definitely take the baby again as he seemed to just enjoy the sights and most of the sounds. One last thing.....visit the Christmas store. Our baby really seemed to enjoy all of the lit up Christmas trees and sounds.

Hope this helps.

I have been taking my boys to Silver Dollar since they were a couple months old...mtter of fact, I think my youngest's first visit was at 3 months!!! My husband and I always had a great time, no matter what, and the boys know the park inside and out! I was a nursing Mo too and let me tell you, thenursing stations are the nicest we've had since we got transferred back stateside!!! The staff is great about giving out free water for or for drinking yourself too. BTB for all you souvenir cup holders, ice water refills are ALWAYS freeand can REALLY cut down on the price of a trip!!!
