One of my favorite things about summertime is the way the daylight hours trickle well into the evening leaving plenty of opportunity for playing and spending time outdoors during this time of year.

In fact, with the "dog days" of summer well upon us those evening hours provide the best time for getting outside when the heat is much less oppressive. As twilight falls it is always fun for me and my family to watch the fireflies and enjoy the summer nights.

We're dog lovers in this family. Our big chocolate lab, Lola, is a beloved family member and we recently added Buddy to our brood, a cute little brown dachshund mix.

The folks at Silver Dollar City sure know how to throw a party, and that was never more evident than this past weekend during the park's 50th Birthday Celebration.

My family was really excited to visit the park on Saturday, May 1 - exactly 50 years to the day from when Silver Dollar City opened for the first time back in 1960. The day was full of celebratory events, with a special opening ceremony and the official Birthday Party at High Noon in Echo Hollow.

Do you remember Easter as a child? I have wonderful memories of waking up to see what the Easter Bunny had left me in my basket, munching on candy, putting on my new dress and then heading off to church with my family for Easter Sunday services.
