Q: Jami asks, "My extended family will be meeting in MO first week of June for a vacation, several kids from 3 to 10 yrs old. Seems like SDC is the place to go!
I'm wondering what the crowds are like at that time of year? Are we talking Disneyworld crowds, waiting in line for 2 hours for a ride? I understand this is a big park but my 3 yr olds would be happier walking on the curb in the parking lot than waiting in tremendous lines. Any insight on this?
A: While Summer is the busiest season at Silver Dollar City, June is actually a pretty good time to visit the park. The really busy days have not quite started yet and the weather tends to be fair with average highs in the mid-80s. Though, June can be a rainy month for us, so you might want to be flexible once you get here. To avoid the biggest crowds I would recommend visiting sometime during the week, with Monday-Thursday generally being lower attendance days.
As far as ride lines go, I don't think you would end up having a 2-hour wait for any of the rides even on the busiest days. Generally on busy days the longest you would have to wait at the most popular attractions is around 1 hour. And by most popular attractions I mean the water rides and high thrill rides like the Lost River, WildFire and Giant Swing. I imagine the wait would be significantly shorter than that for the rides your 3-year-old would enjoy, with the average wait for most rides being between 15-30 minutes. We have always had the best luck with Sunday mornings. It seems that sometimes, even in the middle of the summer, we have a lot of the park to ourselves until early afternoon. I would almost recommend getting to SDC after 3 on a Saturday, and take advantage of their wonderful promotion that would get you in the next day for free. That way you could get in some rides, and really scope out the park. After seeing the park a little, you can get a game plan as too what you want to do first the next day--a little free preview so to speak. This would not only work well for a Sat/Sunday trip, but any day. You could even plan on taking in the evening show the first day, and then relaxing after the second day! If it fits into your plans, this is a great option for you! (It also make the most of your money!) Don't worry there will be plenty to do for a day and half!
