Q: Steve asks, "I have two questions. We are a family w/teenagers. First, on a normal summer day, how long should we plan on touring Silver Dollar City if we want to do everything?
Second, we would like to make reservations for the Lantern Lights Tour, but we don't want to wear ourselves out at the park, by being there all day. Is there a way to make reservations for the Lantern Lights Tour without being there when the park first opens, and then having to stay in the hot sun until 5:30? Thank you." A: The average summer visitor spends about 6 ½ hours at Silver Dollar City during their visit. Summer is the busiest time of year for the park, so you should anticipate a little longer time waiting in lines for the most popular rides and shows. However, by having a solid plan of action you should be able to do everything you would like to during your visit. One suggestion I have is taking advantage of the After 3PM, Next Day Free program. If you enter the park after 3PM on your first day visiting you can come back for the next day on that same ticket! This gives you a good opportunity to check out the park and decide the activities you most want to do the next day. It's a great way to extend your time at the park without any additional cost! The Lantern Light Tour of Marvel Cave is extremely popular and is frequently sold out before noon on busy days. I would definitely suggest arriving early and making your reservation as soon as possible. Plus, the cave is a cool 60° even in the summer, so it would be a great way to end your day at the city (even a hot summer day)! Also, Silver Dollar City does allow reentry to the park on the same day of your visit, so you could leave part of the way through your day to take a break and return for the cave tour. Hope you have fun planning your trip! Please check out Silver Dollar City's website http://www.silverdollarcity.com/ for more information and helpful trip planning features.
